Fishing on our ponds

We have 5 private ponds that our guests may fish for free during their stay. Four of the ponds are stocked annually with hard-fighting Rainbow and Brown Trout. There is a 2-fish limit per day and all legal methods of fishing are permitted. Fly-fishing is very popular and we have a good selection of native insects and invertebrates providing natural food for the fish. Imitating these patterns can yield good catches. In adddition, the open nature of our ponds mean much of the time there is a nice ripple on the water, making the fish bolder in taking your fly.

We also have a pond containing coarse fish and carp, which is operated as a catch and release fishery.

Access to our ponds is relatively straight-forward, although you will need to cross fields and many areas have obstruction-free banks which make for easy casting.

The nearest tackle shop is located at Ardwell Marine which is less than 5 miles away amd around a 10 minute drive. They stock a wide variety of freshwater and sea-fishing tackle and baits.

Sea fishing locally

The Solway Firth is recognized by many as one of the best sea angling locations in the UK. The coastline supports a rich diversity of marine life and species. The Gulf Stream with it's warm waters attracts a large number of fish species found in the area. It is reported that on a good day, up to fifty different species may be caught from a boat and up to nine different species from the shore. The area is famed for some of the finest tope, ray and pollock fishing in Britain making this area a very popular angling destination.
